Updating the operating system (PC)

1.
Connect the G-70’s USB port to your computer.

• First save the User Program Set and MIDI Set “set” you are currently using (see the owner’s manual).
The G-70 doesn’t load them after the update procedure, and any unsaved changes will be lost.

2.
If a memory card is connected to the G-70’s PCMCIA slot, or if a floppy disk is inserted in the drive, remove it before proceeding.

3.
Hold down the [DISK&MEDIA] button to the lower left of the display while switching on the G-70.
Keep holding the button until the “SYSTEM UPDATE” message appears.

4.
Open the “My Computer” window on your computer.
It should contain a “Removable Disk” icon that refers to the G-70’s internal memory.

5.
Use the left mouse button to double-click the “G-70 Removable Disk” icon.
Delete any files contained in the G-70’s “Update” folder.

6.
Copy the “.sys” file (the update file), which you downloaded from the rolandkeyboardclub.com website, to the “Update” folder of your G-70.

7.
When all files have been copied, terminate the USB connection using the tray icon at the right of your computer’s tool bar.
The tray icon related to the USB connection looks like a green arrow on top of an electronic device.
Leave the mouse pointer on this icon and wait for the “safely remove hardware” message to appear.
Using the left mouse button, double-click on this icon to open a window that lists all hardware devices that are currently connected to that USB port.
Select “USB mass storage device” and check at the bottom whether the device description refers to your G-70 (“G-70 mass storage device”).

8.
Click “Disconnect”, and in the next window “OK”, then wait for the message that informs you that you can disconnect the hardware.
Click “OK” to close this window.

9.
Press the [1] button in the G-70’s USER PROGRAM section.
The G-70 starts loading the new system software.
When all data have been loaded, the “Power Off and Power On again” message appears.
Switch off the G-70, wait a moment, then switch it on again.

10.
Press [MENU] > [UTILITY] > [FACTORY RESET], and [EXECUTE] to initialize the G-70.
Press the [EXIT] button to return to the main page.

11.
Press [MENU] > [UTILITY] > [INFO] and check the “Version” entry in the display.
